A fire accident that destroyed a residential area in Bauchi’s Madina Quarters Sunday has killed two siblings, Zainab Bashir Muhammad and Ummu Salma Bashir, who were between the ages of seven and five.
An eyewitness, Kabiru Sani explained that the fire started after the mother of the two deceased children locked them in the house and went to a market to purchase some items.
He said the fire occurred around 11 am on Sunday at a house close to Barden Gabas Primary School, adjacent to Tirwun Quarters in the metropolis of Bauchi.
Sani said: “When we noticed the incident, myself and some neighbors rushed to the house, but our efforts to forcefully open the gate into the house were unsuccessful. We were able to get rid of the door with the use of some carpentry tools and gained entry into the house, but that was after the two kids had died.”
The deceased had been buried according to Islamic rites.
