An Assistant Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, in Niger State, Abdulrahman Ibrahim Gelele, was abducted by gunmen on 17 April 2024. Gelele was taken away while travelling along the Minna–Ilorin Road.
Details surrounding the abduction remain unclear. Sources close to the correctional facility disclosed that Gelele was kidnapped on the aforementioned date. The reason for his travel and the direction he was headed is unknown.
Initially, authorities believed the abduction to be a temporary situation and kept the incident quiet. However, with a lack of communication from the kidnappers for over a week, the news became public knowledge.
The kidnappers reportedly made initial contact with Gelele’s family but have since gone silent. There have been no further demands or updates on his condition.
Niger State Comptroller of Corrections, Mohammed Hamisu Isa, issued a statement through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Rabiu Mohammed Shuaibu. The statement appealed for public prayers for Gelele’s safe release.
