A 24-year-old lady Sheba Simon was stabbed with a knife by a phone snatcher in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital near Damaturu City College in Malali Byepass around 9:30pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

It was learned that the victim was chatting with her phone after she dropped from a commercial tricycle and was trekking home from work when the attacker stabbed her with a knife and fled with her cell phone, leaving her in a pool of blood.

It was gathered that shop owners in the vicinity heard her screams and rushed to the scene and quickly took her to the Specialist Hospital Damaturu where she is currently responding to medical treatment.

Command PPRO, DSP Abdulkarim Dungus  said: “Recall, on 27th April 2024 at about 2130hrs, the victim, while on her way trekking back home to her resident at Malari bypass after closing from a shop in Jerusalem area of Damaturu, on reaching Damaturu City Academy, a miscreant attacked and stabbed her with a locally made Jackknife on the lower back, forcefully whisked away with her cellphone,” the statement read.

 

“On arriving at the scene, the police response unit rushed her to the hospital, and is currently receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital, recuperating fast

 

“Meanwhile, the command has placed all available means to arrest the perpetrator and bring him to book.

“In this regard, the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, enjoins members of the communities to be conscious of their surroundings from hoodlums lurking around.

“He however advised to always report suspicious movements of persons, vehicles, snatching, or objects to the nearest police station or any security agency or formation. Meanwhile, operatives of the Yobe State Police Command have arrested one Sani Musa AKA (Regis Oga Soja) aged 22 years of Nayinawa ward, Damaturu, the Yobe State capital for allegedly stabbing a lady with a knife and snatched her cellphone.

Command PPRO, DSP Abdulkarim Dungus in a statement titled: RE: Cell Phone snatching / armed robbery and causing grievous hurt: said the culprit was arrested, by the Command Police Response Unit (Haba Maza) in a joint operation with the State Intelligent Department and personnel of C Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended the suspect who has been on the run for days.

According to the PPRO, “On 30th April 2024 at about 2330hrs, the Culprit was napped with his pants down in a hideout in possession of the snatched Cellphone, Itel A663LC / MTN Sim Card, and assorted charms, i.e talisman.

“The culprit unequivocally confessed to the commission of the crime when interviewed by Police Operatives.”

“No stone will be left unturned as the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, expressed relief and described the operation as effective, timely.”

The CP encouraged Officers and Men of the Command to maintain the tempo and make Yobe State a no-hiding,  place for criminals.

CP Ahmed appreciated good members of the communities for their unwavering support in the fight against crimes and criminalities in the state.

It added that discrete investigation has commenced on the matter, and proactive measures are employed to avert future occurrences as the Command calls for collective efforts in this gesture.
