BusinessNewsNigeriaKogi Govt Expresses Readiness To Embark On Agricultural Revolution

In an effort to boost food production, the Kogi State Government has expressed readiness to achieve an unprecedented agricultural revolution.

A release on Friday by Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information and Communications, stated that the state government under the leadership of His Excellency Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo is backing farmers in the state to break production ceilings by opening up thousands of hectares of land for massive crop production this season.

He said, “The Governor is doing that to fulfill his campaign promise of making Kogi the food basket of the nation.

“The state government has also backed Transition Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Areas to invest heavily in land preparation, which has taken off in virtually all the Local Government Areas of the state.

Fanwo added, “The administration is aware of the heavy capital involved in land preparation and has therefore decided to take the cost off the rural farmers who are now taking advantage of the benefits.

“In order to achieve bumper production, the state government has also taken delivery of over 100 Tractors to be distributed across the 21 Local Government Areas to help farmers improve their productivity.

“The State Ministry of Agriculture has also taken delivery of improved seedlings, agro-chemicals and is currently giving orientation to extension workers to help the farmers.

“Processes are ongoing across the 239 wards of the state to boost the capital of the farmers as well as their credit worthiness and value chain development around the crops in which the state has comparative advantage.

“The state government is working closely with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria to ensure only the genuine farmers are captured rather than ‘political farmers’. Big investors have also been wooed into the state to process Agricultural produce. The future is here already.

“All of these were achieved within 100 Days of Purposeful Leadership among many others in the Agricultural Sector alone.

“Kogi is set for an unprecedented Agricultural Revolution under the Consolidation and Continuity Administration of the Governor,” Fanwo added.
