Vice-President Kashim Shettima says the death toll from multiple suicide attacks in the Gwoza area of Borno State, has risen to 32.
Shettima disclosed this while on a condolence visit to Borno over the attack, saying out of the 42 persons who were taken to the hospital after the attack, 14 have been discharged and 26 were still receiving treatment.
The Vice President, who condoled with the families of those killed in the multiple explosions, made a personal donation to all the victims.
“So far we have recorded 32 deaths, 42 people were brought in from Gwoza and about 14 people have been discharged but 26 people are currently receiving medical attention.
“I want to use this forum to most sincerely register profound gratitude to the Borno State government, the National Emergency Management Agency, and State emergency management agency and ICRC for raising us to the challenges of time and giving their best in terms of support,” he said.
The Vice President also conveyed the condolences of President Bola Tinubu to the Gwoza people and Borno State.
“The heart of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is with the victims and he specifically instructed us to come and offer our condolences and commiserations to the victims of this incident.
“We are here with the Director General of NEMA, with the Minister of Agriculture, with the Minister of Transportation, and, of course, the Chief Whip of the Senate, a son of the soil from Gwoza, who was here since Sunday, and the Acting Governor. They have been working round the clock to provide succour and support to the victims,” Shettima said.
