…Warns those providing information to insurgents
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has vowed that anyone found providing information to insurgents will face the full wrath of the law.
Governor Fintiri, who gave the warning on Tuesday in Hong while handing over 40 motorcycles to support security operations in the Hong Local Government Area, said that intelligence gathered by security agencies indicated that some individuals were leaking security information to insurgents.
Fintiri, therefore, called on traditional institutions and communities to take ownership of the fight against insurgency by working closely with security agencies to identify and hand over suspected informants.
Represented by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, the Governor said the intervention is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that no part of Adamawa State is left without adequate protection.
Governor Fintiri said the motorcycles would enhance the mobility of security agencies and support their operations against Boko Haram and other insurgents, particularly in hard terrains that cannot be covered by vehicles.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Hong Local Government Council, Dr. Aliyu Sa’ad, described the security situation in the area as worrisome, saying attacks on communities had increased in recent weeks.
According to the Council Chairman, the insurgents have attacked many villages within three to four weeks, resulting in deaths, abductions and destruction of property.
Dr. Sa’ad said the motorcycles would significantly enhance the operations of security agencies, especially in areas that are difficult to access with conventional vehicles.
The Chairman also disclosed that the local government had provided assistance to residents whose houses were burnt during the attacks, including roofing sheets, woods and financial support.
