The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested two brothers in the Zaria area of the state for burying their sibling alive over an allegation of stealing a cell phone worth N35,000,00.

According to ASP Mansir Hassan, Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Police Command, the victim, 20 years old, Abubakar Aliyu of Gauraki village under Kufena ward, Zaria in Kaduna State was working as a laborer at a building construction site in Abuja when the cell phone of one of the sibling got missing. The victim was accused of the offense.

ASP Hassan said already, two of the siblings who committed the offence have been arrested and are helping the Police in their investigations.

The statement read in parts: “On Saturday 10th August 2024, the two of them located him and forcefully took him to an uncomplicated building, dug the ground akin to a grave, bound his hands and feet, covered his mouth with a piece of clothing, placed him inside the hole and returned the earth leaving only his head outside.

“They left their victim Abubakar Aliyu in the said condition until when a passerby heard his groans and alerted the public before he was rescued. The Police later arrested the two suspects Yahaya AbdulKadir and Abdullahi AbdulKadir and they admitted to having committed the act as a form of interrogation in connection with the stolen GSM handset”.

“Sequel to a video that went viral on the internet showing a person buried with only his head left out, the Police have arrested in Zaria two suspects for complicity.

“Immediately the Police got wind of the video, efforts were made to locate the victim and possibly arrest the culprits which yielded desired results as the victim one Abubakar Aliyu 20 years old of Gauraki village under Kufena ward Zaria was traced.

“Equally, two culpable suspects Yahaya Abdul Kadir 24 years old, and Abdullahi Abdul Kadir 18 years old all of Gauraki village under Kufena ward Zaria, were arrested in connection to the dastardly act of burying the victim alive.

“Preliminary inquiry reveals that both the victim Abubakar Aliyu and the suspects Yahaya AbdulKadir and Abdullahi Abdul Kadir with others were working as laborers at a building construction site in Abuja when the phone handset of Abdullahi Abdul Kadir valued at thirty-five thousand naira (N35,000:00) got stolen at where they were lodged.

“Abubakar Aliyu the victim of the burial incident was alleged to be the culprit of the stolen handset thus, it was resolved among the labourers that Abubakar Aliyu’s daily wages will be used to buy another phone as replacement for Abdullahi AbdulKadir.

Abubakar Aliyu piqued by the resolution left Abuja and returned home. However, he was trailed to Zaria by the duo of Yahaya AbdulKadir and Abdullahi AbdulKadir who happened to be siblings.

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, CP A.D. Ali, has warned the general public against jungle justice by taking the law into their own hands, assuring that the case will be investigated and the suspects in court.
