The Federal House of Representatives, set to reconvene from its annual recess on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, following a revised schedule.
The initial resumption date of September 17 was adjusted, as stated in an internal memo issued by Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Clerk of the House, on behalf of the House leadership.
A statement on Wednesday from the House spokesperson, Akin Rotimi, Jr., noted that “during the recess, members were actively engaged in their constituencies, addressing pressing concerns raised by constituents and intensifying their oversight functions of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).”
He stressed that the efforts are to “align with the House’s legislative mandate as prescribed in the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and its Standing Orders.”
One of the significant events slated for resumption is “the inauguration of the newly constituted board of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) on Wednesday, September 25.”
The Joint Senate/House Ad-Hoc Committee on the Petroleum Industry Investigation will be formally launched to probe various issues in the sector.
As the 10th Assembly resumes, the leadership has reiterated its commitment to advancing its Legislative Agenda, which focuses on crucial reforms aimed at driving national development.
The agenda prioritises “transparency, accountability, and policies that seek to address Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.”
The reconvening of the House signifies a continuation of efforts to “enact impactful legislation and foster sustainable development for the Nigerian people.” The clerk stated.
