Nigeria’s Falconets have been eliminated from the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after a 2-1 loss to Japan in their final group stage match on Friday morning.
Japan scored in the 33rd and 65th minutes, dashing the Falconets’ hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals.
Despite a strong effort from Nigeria, the team struggled to penetrate Japan’s defence and secure the necessary win.
Olushola Shobowale scored a late goal in the 91st minute, but it was too late to change the outcome.
Japan moves on to the quarter-finals to face Spain.
The Falconets, who had previously impressed with a 4-0 victory over Venezuela, fell short in this crucial game.
This defeat brings an end to the Falconets’ campaign in the tournament.
Although they displayed promise throughout, they were ultimately unable to progress beyond the group stage.
