The Federal Government has commenced plans to evacuate Nigerians residing in Lebanon, following the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

The conflict, which has intensified in recent weeks, has raised concerns about the safety of foreign nationals in Lebanon, including Nigerians.

Special Assistant to the President on social media, Dada Olusegun, disclosed this development on Tuesday. He urged Nigerians in Lebanon to contact the Nigerian mission for profiling and documentation ahead of the planned evacuation.

In a tweet posted on X, Olusegun stated, “All Nigerians in Lebanon are expected to get in touch with the Nigerian mission for profiling and documentation and subsequent evacuation.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM, has also advised Nigerians in Lebanon to leave while commercial flights remain operational.

“In light of the attacks on Hezbollah and other areas in Lebanon by the Israeli government, we are advising Nigerians in Lebanon to take the opportunity to exit the country now,” said Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media at NiDCOM.

“We have been informed that most Nigerians have moved to safer regions and are relatively secure, but we continue to urge them to remain vigilant until a ceasefire is in place,” Balogun added.

The Federal Government has reassured citizens that no Nigerian has been harmed in the ongoing conflict but has urged them to remain vigilant and maintain contact with the Nigerian Embassy in Beirut for further guidance.
