Pearl Entertainment Modeling Concept (PEMC), the organisers of the forthcoming 2020 Most Adorable Queen In Nigeria/Nigeria Noble Achievers Award, has postponed the event due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
Samuel Osioh, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PEMC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos that the decision to postpone the event was taken in collaboration with its sponsors and partner.
Osioh said that 20 contestants had registered for the 3rd edition of the event earlier scheduled for April 18 in Lagos.
“The postponement has become necessary due to the outbreak and the spread of COVID-19 pandemic which is equally affecting the country.
“We are complying with the Federal and Lagos State Governments’ declaration of the total lockdown of the state and self-isolation of the citizens to stop the spread of coronavirus in the state.
“It is in our character to take the decision; as a matter of fact, this is the first of its kind, but the good health and safety of our guests are paramount to us,” he said.
According to him, 20 girls have registered as contestants while the registration which started in November 2019 is still open for other interested girls and will run through April.
He added that a new date would be considered and communicated after the coronavirus must have been totally eradicated.
Osioh said that the winner of the pageant would become the Ambassador for young girls against child abuse, early pregnancy, human trafficking, sexual harassment, child marriage and violence against girls.
“The contest is strictly for girls between 17 years and 29 years of age with a good command of English language, self-confidence, bold, intelligent, beautiful, must be single and be an African to be eligible,” he added.
The PEMC executive officer said that Angela Imasuen, the winner of the 2nd edition held in 2019 is the current Ambassador of the Most Adorable Queen in Nigeria pageantry.
NAN reports that the Most Adorable Queen in Nigeria Pageant is an innovative, and educative contest aimed at giving African girls a platform not only to showcase their beauty but also to groom them as ambassadors.
The winner becomes an ambassador for young girls charged with designing and implementing a peace programme to help fight violence among youths.
