Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu, has been appointed ambassador for the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education.

The commission’s executive secretary, Muhammad Idris, announced her appointment on Friday during a visit to her residence in Lagos.

Idris expressed concern over the condition of Almajiri children, who he said have been “brainwashed” into engaging in activities such as begging, terrorism, banditry, and other social vices.

He stressed the need for joint efforts, calling on non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, and concerned Nigerians to work with the government in providing better opportunities for these children.

Speaking on the rationale behind Tinubu-Ojo’s appointment, Idris said it was in recognition of her “passion for supporting disadvantaged communities, particularly Almajiri and out-of-school children.”

He also commended her commitment to promoting trade and commerce as well as her advocacy for better resources and opportunities for market women.

In her response, Tinubu-Ojo, who serves as the Iyaloja-General of Lagos, expressed gratitude for the appointment.

“I am deeply honoured by this appointment and I’m committed to alleviating the plight of these vulnerable Nigerians,” she said.

She also highlighted her father’s focus on education as a lasting legacy for Nigerian children.

“A trained child is an insurance to the generation and to a nation. So I want to tell you that education is very, very important to our dear President,” she said.

“He always emphasises that the only legacy he is willing to leave is education to the children.”
