Contractors handling some of the investments projects in Abia state have been sacked, while every existing contract has been terminated due to alleged breach of the terms and conditions guiding the agreement by the affected companies.
Cliff Agbaeze, Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, gave the order in a press release, declaring that the revocation of the contract takes effect from Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
The Commissioner declared that the contracts were signed to the detriment of the State’s interests, saying the government’s decision followed a careful review of the existing contracts on the state’s farm estates.
Agbaeze said a fresh bidding process would soon be initiated to bring in credible investors, in line with international best practices.
The statement read in part: “It would be irresponsible of this government to allow the breaches to neither continue nor subject the state to such clearly compromised conditions”.
