NewsNigeriaReligionMuslims In Nigeria Begins 2025 Ramadan Fast

The President General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the first day of Ramadan 1446 A.H.

The announcement followed the Sultanate Council’s moon-sighting meeting, where reports were received from various states and organizations confirming the sighting of the new moon.

The appearance of the crescent moon signals the beginning of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, during which Muslims observe fasting, prayer, and reflection.

Moon sighting follows the tradition of Prophet Muhammad, who instructed Muslims to begin and end Ramadan based on visual confirmation of the new moon.

The Sultan in a broadcast to Muslims across Nigeria urged them to dedicate themselves to worship during the holy month and to pray for peace and prosperity in the nation.

He called on the Muslim community to embrace the spirit of Ramadan by engaging in prayers, fasting, charity, and acts of kindness as well pray for leaders in authority.

The Sultan then wished all Muslims a blessed and peaceful Ramadan fast.
