The Kano Hisbah Board has pulled down the popular ‘healing water’ site located in Hotoron Arewa, within the Kano metropolis.
The site, believed by many to possess spiritual healing powers, had drawn huge crowds over the past few weeks. People travelled from across Kano and even from neighbouring states, hoping to receive divine healing from the water.
But the Hisbah Board says the whole thing was a scam.
The Director General of the board, Abba Sufi, confirmed that the demolition was carried out on Monday, 21 April.
“The place was demolished on Monday, April 21 after we discovered that some disgruntled elements are using the place to mislead desperate patients seeking treatment,” Sufi said.
He explained that Hisbah decided to act after observing that certain individuals were taking advantage of sick and desperate people who were in search of help.
According to him, the board would not allow some “undesirable elements to mislead people in the name of getting treatment for whatever ailments.”
Sufi urged Kano residents and visitors from outside the state to ignore any claims about the water’s healing powers. He insisted there was nothing spiritual or sacred about the location.
