NewsNigeriaPoliticsMay Day: Akai Egwuonwu Salutes Anambra Workers

The leading APGA aspirant for the Anambra South senatorial by-election, Chief Akai Egwuonwu, has congratulated Anambra workers on the occasion of the 2025 Workers’ Day. According to Chief Egwuonwu, an industrialist and businessman of reputable standing with no fewer than two thousand workers across his many businesses, workers are the lifeblood of every organized society.

Speaking to the West African Pilot News, Akai Egwuonwu said that workers’ welfare is a priority for any serious government or organization. “No serious organization both private and public, takes the welfare of its workers for granted. Once you do that, not only is productivity adversely affected, but they also will not have faith in that organization, and this will begin to reflect in their attitudes and work ethics,” Chief Egwuonwu said. A few months ago, Chief Akai Egwuonwu received a commendation from the Federal Ministry of Labour for implementing the new Federal Government’s minimum wage of N70,000. That is to say that no worker gets paid less than N70,000 in any of their business establishments.

Mr. Egwuonwu further promised to explore possible ways he would promote the welfare of workers in Anambra South and beyond when he is elected into the Nigerian Senate. “When we talk about workers’ welfare, there are so many things involved. It’s just not about salary. I will certainly explore ways to promote workers’ welfare to ensure effectiveness and a high level of productivity among Nigerian workers”, Chief Akai Egwuonwu assured.
