Two top lawmakers of the Ondo State House of Assembly have stepped down from their leadership positions.

Deputy Speaker, Abayomi Akinruntan, and Majority Leader, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, both members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), announced their resignations during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Akinruntan, who represents Ilaje Constituency 1, told the House that his decision was informed by ongoing discussions around political power-sharing in the state.

“This resignation is based on political arrangements within the state,” he said without giving further details.

Ogunmolasuyi, who represents Owo Constituency 1, also quietly tendered his resignation from the Majority Leader role during the same session, which was presided over by Speaker Olamide Oladiji.

In a swift transition, Ololade Gbegudu, representing Okitipupa Constituency 2, was immediately picked as the new Deputy Speaker. Olatunji Oshati, from Ose State Constituency, also emerged as the new Majority Leader.
