NewsNigeriaPoliticsPresidency to Obi: You’ve Joined the Same ‘Structure’ You Condemned

The Tinubu administration has taken a jab at Labour Party’s Peter Obi for joining forces with politicians he once publicly condemned, calling the new opposition alliance a gathering of “internally displaced politicians.”

Presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala, in a post on X on Sunday, mocked the former Anambra governor for aligning with familiar political faces ahead of the 2027 elections—faces Obi had previously criticised as lacking integrity.

“One of the members of the coalition of internally displaced politicians who are on a wild goose chase pursuing a dead-on-arrival mission, better described in the words of @PeterObi as ‘a structure of criminality,’” Bwala posted, referencing Obi’s own words from the 2023 campaign season.

Back then, during a rally in Enugu, Obi had dismissed suggestions that his presidential ambition was doomed due to a lack of political structure.

“They told you I have no structure. What they have is the structure of criminality, the structure of fuel scarcity, the structure of poverty,” he said at the Michael Okpara Square.

Now, the presidency is questioning what has changed.

“Surprisingly, the same Peter Obi has joined the ‘structure of criminality,’” Bwala added, calling out the perceived contradiction in Obi’s latest political moves.

He didn’t stop there. Bwala also threw shade at Obi’s support base—popularly called the Obidient movement—claiming they are now embarrassed by his political manoeuvring.

“The Obidient movement are so ashamed that after calling people names about changing political parties and direction, are seeing their very own idol demonstrating anywhere belle face; PDP-APGA-PDP-Labour-ADC,” he said, referencing Obi’s past affiliations.

This dig comes just as Obi confirmed his involvement in a new coalition of opposition figures who have now adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their political platform in a bid to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.

Although he finished third in the 2023 presidential race, Obi has remained one of the loudest critics of Tinubu’s administration, often accusing it of lacking direction.

He insists that what Nigeria needs is not just political power play but competent, principled leadership, something he believes the current government does not offer.
