Sixteen suspects have been apprehended by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, FCT Command, for vandalism, theft, and illegal mining across various parts of Abuja, the Nation’s capital.
FCT Commandant of the Corps, Dr Olusola Odumosu, who disclosed this, stressed zero tolerance for vandalism, urging residents to report criminals and help safeguard national assets vital to Abuja’s daily functioning.
Dr Odumosu stated that the arrests followed late-night operations by the CNAI Tactical Squad, which recovered armoured cables, transformer fuses, air conditioners, wires, diggers, and other stolen public assets.
“These assets are not just for aesthetics; they are crucial to the everyday functioning of the city. We must ensure their protection, and that is why we are here,” he said.
He stressed that vandalism and theft of national infrastructure would not be handled with leniency.
The Commandant warned criminal elements to desist from further acts of sabotage or face the full consequences of the law.
He called on residents of the FCT to support the NSCDC by providing timely and relevant intelligence information to help rid the territory of criminals and vandals.
