The Nigeria Police Force Zone 9 Police Command, Umuahia, has initiated an investigation to unravel an alleged extortion of N1.5 million involving operatives of the Zonal Command’s Special Intelligence Arms Recovery Unit, as revealed in a viral video posted by one Harrison Gwamnishu.

This is contained in a statement by the Spokesperson of the Zonal Command, SP Iheanetu Bruno Chukwudera, who hinted that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Zone, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered the investigation in response to the incident.

SP Chukwudera urged the complainant to come forward with relevant information to support the investigation and ensure a swift and just resolution.

The statement said: “The AIG has ordered a comprehensive investigation to verify the claim, identify those involved, and ensure that any officer found culpable is duly sanctioned.

Chukwudera added that the AIG, while reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to discipline and professionalism, stressed that “the Force does not condone unprofessional or corrupt practices”.

The spokesperson then encouraged members of the public to maintain trust in the Zonal Command and to report any acts of misconduct by its personnel for appropriate disciplinary action.
