Anambra State Woman Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance – APGA, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, has lost her only son to the cold hands of death after he was kidnapped on Sunday in their home in Awka, the Anambra State capital, by gunmen.
The deceased, Martin Onyekesi, a young man in his 20s and a notable fish farmer in the Okpuno area of Awka, was reportedly trailed and accosted by gunmen in his family compound, was shot on the leg, and thereafter kidnapped on Sunday evening. Somehow, the criminals escaped with Martins after creating a scene with sporadic gunshots, but still left unscathed, according to multiple accounts by eyewitnesses.
Despite paying a ransom of unspecified amounts, the young Martins was murdered by the assailants, throwing the family into wide grief.
Concerns over security in Anambra State remain high, even as the Anambra State Government makes assurances and promises that negate the experiences of the populace.
