As part of measures to promote sign language interpretation and enhance the inclusion of persons with disabilities in public life, the Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the state government to adopt and implement in all its programmes.
The passage of the resolution titled “H.R No. 132/OG/2025 – Call for the Inclusion of Sign Language Interpretation in State Government Programmes to Promote Inclusivity for Persons with Hearing Impairment” followed a debate by the lawmakers on the desirability of the proposed initiative.

The sponsor, Babatunde Tella, who opened the debate on the motion, noted that the inclusion of sign language interpretation in state government programmes would reinforce the government’s commitment to upholding the rights of persons with disabilities as enshrined in national and international human rights frameworks.
In their various contributions, other lawmakers, including Honourables Omolola Bakare, Kashamu Rasheed, and the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, called on all relevant ministries, departments, and agencies, including the Ministry of Information and Strategy and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, to ensure compliance with the resolution.
The lawmakers urged the state government to mandate organizers of all programmes, including executive, legislative, and judicial functions, to have a certified sign language interpreter present to communicate with the deaf and dumb.
