NewsNigeriaPoliticsUlasi Backs Peter Obi’s 2027 Single-Term Promise

…Says Ex-Gov Is Viable For Any Party To Field

Chief Dan Ulasi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Anambra State chairman of the party, has backed Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only a single term if elected president in 2027.

He also stated that the former Anambra state governor is a viable product and that any party that fields him in the 2027 presidential election will have some level of advantage.

Ulasi, who stated this on Tuesday in an interview on Arise TV, also stated that the country requires somebody like Obi at least to give hope.

He said, “Peter Obi is a viable product that any party that has him will have some level of advantage. It’s a reference point in this country by all means. If the PDP desires to approach him, I’ll support that.

He added, “If people desire that Peter Obi, from his record as governor of Anambra State, his integrity, and his honesty, will be the one, it’s fine.  He’s one governor nobody has ever pointed an accusing finger at, negatively. Every reference made to Peter Obi is positive. And this country requires somebody like him, at least to give hope.

“Governance is not just about constructing roads and doing this and that. You give hope. Because politics depends on doses of stability. And this stability we haven’t seen.”

While reacting to criticisms in some quarters about Obi’s resolve to serve a single term if elected president, Ulasi said, “Peter saying that you’ll do four years, I think it’s sacrosanct. By all standards, in Nigerian politics, he’s a very honest person, a good Christian. He doesn’t talk from both sides of his mouth, so I believe him that he’ll do it in four years.  If you listen to him, you’ll see and believe that he’ll do everything he wants to do, maybe not 100%, in four years. That’s what the constitution presupposes. Peter hasn’t said anything out of point.

“It’s his belief that in one year, you should be able to do proper analysis, even before you come into office.  Do a proper analysis of what your vision is and how to implement that vision. The only thing is that people have a vision of stealing money, and all the time they’re thinking of how to steal that money. Not anything that’ll be impactful to the common people.”
