NewsNigeriaPolitics16 military officers arrested over violation of service regulations

The Defence Headquarters on Saturday confirmed that sixteen military officers have been arrested over alleged acts of indiscipline and violation of service regulations.
Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, who disclosed this in a statement, said some of the detained officers had grievances linked to perceived stagnation in their careers, particularly due to repeated failures in promotion examinations and other service-related concerns.
According to Gusau, the arrests were part of a routine military exercise aimed at promoting discipline and professionalism within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The statement read in part: “Some of the apprehended officers had been under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial. Their conduct was deemed incompatible with the standards of military service.
“The disciplinary measures were designed to uphold accountability and maintain professionalism across the Armed Forces.
“The Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that these actions are strictly disciplinary in nature and part of routine efforts to maintain order, discipline, and loyalty within the ranks”.
Gusau said that once investigations are concluded, any officers found culpable would be subjected to the full military disciplinary process in line with established procedures.
He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to professionalism and its constitutional duties under democratic authority.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully committed to its constitutional responsibilities and will remain professional at all times,” Gusau added.
