The N134 billion contract awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for the renovation and furnishing of the Rivers state secretariat complex by Ikot-Ete Ibas, the former sole administrator of the state, has been revoked.
The contract was awarded during the six-month emergency rule under that of Ikot-Ete Ibas, the former sole administrator of the state.
The Rivers state executive council revoked the contract on Thursday during a meeting presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi in a statement said that the council also directed the contractor to refund the N20 billion mobilisation fee it had received.
Commenting on the contract, Austin Ezekiel-Hart, Permanent Secretary in the Rivers State Ministry of Works, said the project was awarded “in haste” and “without due process”.
