A few days after Bachama and Chobo communities in Lamurde Local Government Area in Adamawa State signed a peace accord at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Yola, renewed clashes have erupted in the area.
The peace deal brought together the Hama Bachama, Homun Daniel Ismaila, key community stakeholders, government officials, and security agencies.
Following this development, the Adamawa Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Lamurde local government area of the state, effective immediately, due to renewed hostilities.
A statement signed by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, stated that the curfew followed a renewed communal clash that resurfaced in the area on Sunday evening.
The statement reads in part: “Already, security agencies have been directed to restore law and order in the local government area with immediate effect.
“Government is appealing for people to remain calm for peace in the area”.
Also, in a statement, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje urged residents to comply strictly with the curfew order.
The statement said: “Following a renewed communal clash in Lamurde LGA and the declaration of a 24-hour curfew by the state government, the command advises the public—especially those within Lamurde—to stay indoors to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” he said.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has deployed additional tactical units to enforce the curfew and maintain stability in the troubled area.
“The command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, will not allow miscreants and misguided elements to operate unchallenged,” Nguroje warned, assuring that officers would act within the law while avoiding unnecessary loss of life,” the statement added.
