The Adamawa state government has announced the distribution of N611 million in intervention funds to 5,000 households in Yola-South affected by the flood in the state.
The state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, made the disclosure in her office, saying food and non-food items are to be shared with victims of the Lamurde communal crisis.
Farauta said the delay in distributing the fund is to enable the state emergency committee to authenticate the exact number of beneficiaries and establish the number of deaths recorded during the flood.
Farauta used the avenue to caution residents against building houses on waterways, considering the potential impact, even as she called upon traditional rulers to rise to the challenge to save lives and property.
The Deputy Governor thanked the donors for their gesture, aimed at mitigating the effects of the disasters on the people.
Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, said disbursement of the flood relief fund was approved during a meeting by the state emergency committee, chaired by the deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta.
The Deputy Governor, however, was reassured of the prudent use of finances in the committee’s coffers, underscoring the importance of living at peace with one another.
“Government is working assiduously to ensure all emergency issues are attended to” she maintained.
