Worried about the rate of insecurity that is ravaging some parts of Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has tasked leaders at all levels to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity in the country.
The Sultan, who is also President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), in his Eid-el-Fitr message delivered on Friday in Sokoto, noted that more needs to be done, especially in tackling insecurity and economic hardship.
“Our people are facing challenges, particularly insecurity. Leaders must intensify efforts to address these issues,” he said.
While stressing the importance of unity among leaders to address the country’s challenges, Sultan urged citizens to embrace positive change and uphold values that promote peace and progress.
He called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in prayers and in their commitment to national development, emphasised the role of prayers in societal development, and urged Muslims to continue seeking divine intervention for leaders and the nation.
Abubakar, commended Islamic scholars for their dedication during Ramadan, particularly through Tafsir sessions and public enlightenment, and encouraged them to sustain efforts in guiding the faithful while praying for the nation.
The Sultan noted that the country’s future will be bright if citizens remain God-fearing, patriotic, and committed to nation-building, and encouraged citizens to support government initiatives.
In his remarks, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, commended the Sultan’s leadership and guidance, assuring continued collaboration with the Sultanate Council in the state’s best interests.
He congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan and expressed appreciation for scholars’ prayers and teachings.
Aliyu urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies in the fight against banditry, terrorism, and other crimes, and also called for sustained public support for the government at all levels.
