… UNIJOS Orders Evacuation Of Students
Due to fragile security in some parts of Plateau State, the Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bala Mwolpun, has imposed a curfew on Mangu Metropolis, effective from April 1st, 2026, until further notice.
According to the Council Chairman, the decision to imposed the curfew followed careful deliberation by heads of security operatives in the local government area, “This curfew is imposed in the interest of public safety and security”.
“The curfew hours have been set from 8pm(Night) to 6am daily. This measure is taken to ensure the safety and security of residents and property within the metropolis,” the statement said.
The Executive Chairman appeals to residents to conduct their daily activities peacefully during curfew hours and to report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
Mwolpun, urges residents to comply with the curfew directive by staying indoors and cooperate with security personnel on duty.
Meanwhile, authorities of the University of Jos has ordered the immediate evacuation of students from its hostels following security concerns in areas surrounding the institution.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, issued the directive following the chaotic developments on Wednesday, April 1, which escalated tensions and raised fears for the safety of students residing on campus.
According to a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, the evacuation exercise is being carried out with the support of the Plateau State Government.
The statement explained that Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has provided vehicles authorized to operate during curfew hours to ensure the safe movement of students.
“The evacuation is scheduled in phases, beginning Wednesday, April 1, from 3:00 p.m., for students residing within Jos and its environs. Students whose parents or guardians live outside Jos are to be evacuated on Thursday, April 2, starting from 8:00 a.m,” the statement explained.
The statement further said University authority has assured that adequate security measures have been deployed to safeguard the hostels and the institution during and after the evacuation process.
It further reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of the university community, stating that efforts are ongoing to explore all necessary measures to maintain security on campus.
“Students and parents have been advised to comply with the evacuation arrangements and utilize the designated communication lines provided by the university for further inquiries,” the statement added.
