Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a 15-year-old suspect in connection with the deadly attack that killed a senior army officer and three soldiers in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Tijjani, was apprehended on Sunday at Ngamdu while reportedly on his way to purchase food for members of his group.
Military sources linked him to the attack that led to the death of Brigadier-General Oseni Braimah, commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, who was killed on Thursday when suspected Boko Haram insurgents overran a military base.
In a video circulating online, Tijjani said he was involved in the operation and spoke about his movements before and after the attack.
“Before the attack, we came from Jilli and returned there after the attack. I was sent from Jilli yesterday with N850,000 to collect some logistics from Ngamdu, but I was arrested by troops,” he said.
“Yesterday (Saturday), I left other fighters, my colleagues, at Jilli. I don’t know what happened to them there.”
He also claimed participation in previous attacks in Benisheik and Ngamdu.
The killing of Braimah marked a major loss for the military and underscored the continued threat posed by insurgents in the North-East, despite ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
