AfricaNewsNigeriaSoccerConfederation of African Football Fixes Dates for 2027 AFCON

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be held from June 19 to July 17, marking the tournament’s historic return to East Africa.

The dates were approved by the FIFA Council during a meeting in Vancouver, Canada, amid earlier concerns over the preparedness of the joint hosts — Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.

However, CAF did not disclose which of the three nations would host the opening match or the final.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed confidence in the host countries’ readiness, despite calls to postpone the tournament to 2028.

“We have worked hard to ensure that the AFCON is held in East Africa, and our commitment remains unwavering. I am confident that we will organize a very successful AFCON in these three countries,” Motsepe said.

The 2027 edition will be the first in the tournament’s history to be jointly hosted by three countries, signaling a new phase in the organization of Africa’s premier football competition.

It will also mark the return of the Africa Cup of Nations to the East African region for the first time since the 1976 edition hosted by Ethiopia.
