The Oyo State Police Command says it has launched a full-scale investigation into an attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service passport office in Ogbomoso, after armed assailants invaded the facility on Tuesday night.

According to police authorities, the incident occurred at about 8:45 p.m. on 2 June 2026, when the officer in charge raised an alarm after hoodlums breached the premises by scaling the rear perimeter fence.

“Preliminary information available to the Command indicates that at about 8:45 p.m., the officer in charge of the facility raised an alarm following the invasion of the premises by armed hoodlums who scaled the perimeter fence from the rear,” the statement said.

Security operatives, including members of the Command Monitoring Unit and surveillance teams, were immediately deployed to the scene in response to the distress call.

Early findings indicate that about five attackers gained access to the compound through a fence bordering a stretch of bushland.

“The hoodlums reportedly attacked two Immigration officers who were on night duty, assaulting them with sticks and other dangerous weapons before making away with a G3 rifle assigned to the office, together with ammunition attached thereto,” the police said.

The attackers also stole a mobile phone belonging to one of the officers, a generating set and a motorcycle battery before fleeing through the same route.

The injured officers have since received treatment and are said to be in stable condition.

In the aftermath of the attack, police say surveillance and tactical teams have intensified operations across Ogbomoso and surrounding areas, combing nearby bushes and suspected escape routes in a bid to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen items.

“Intelligence assets and informants have been activated to generate actionable information capable of leading to the arrest of the suspects,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has directed all operational and intelligence units to deploy every available resource to ensure a swift breakthrough.

Authorities also disclosed that a joint task team has been constituted in collaboration with the immigration service to strengthen coordination and fast-track the arrest of those responsible.

Residents of Ogbomoso have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, as the police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
