The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the safe rescue of Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, sister to former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, three days after they were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The victims were rescued on Saturday evening at about 7:30 p.m. during a coordinated operation by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).
Mrs Adegoke and her children were kidnapped in the early hours of Wednesday, 3 June 2026, while she was driving them to school at approximately 7:30 a.m., sparking concern among residents and prompting a swift police response.
According to police authorities, the rescue followed sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations, which enabled investigators to track the movement of the kidnappers. The operation culminated in a confrontation between the suspects and FID-IRT operatives.
During the exchange, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while two rifles were recovered from the scene. The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical care and psychological support.
The Inspector-General of Police commended the operatives for their courage, professionalism, and effectiveness, noting that their resilience was instrumental in securing the safe return of the hostages.
Meanwhile, security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who fled the scene. Preliminary intelligence suggests that some of the suspects escaped with gunshot injuries.
Police authorities said operations are ongoing to track down and arrest all those involved, assuring the public of their continued commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The Force also expressed appreciation for the support, cooperation, and patience of the public throughout the operation.
