Crime & SecurityNewsNigeriaTinubu: Nigeria Will Not Surrender to Terrorists

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Nigeria’s security forces for their continued efforts in combating terrorism and insecurity, describing them as a vital shield protecting citizens from harm.

In a message addressed to frontline personnel, the President praised the resilience and sacrifice of troops operating across challenging terrains, including forests, roads, waterways and conflict zones, noting that their efforts enable millions of Nigerians to carry out daily activities in relative safety.

“You stand as a shield between innocent citizens and those who seek to destroy the peace, safety, and dignity of our communities,” he said.

The President acknowledged the toll of the ongoing fight against terrorism, describing it as a difficult campaign marked by “pain, pressure, and sacrifice,” while commending the courage and steadfastness of security personnel.

“Your service is acknowledged. Your sacrifice is honoured. Your country does not take you for granted,” he added.

Tinubu extended his appreciation beyond the military to include officers of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, intelligence agencies and local security formations, recognising their collective role in safeguarding the nation.

He also paid tribute to the families of security personnel, noting the emotional strain and prolonged separations they endure in support of national duty.

“Many of you have endured long absences, anxious nights, and the emotional cost of duty. Nigeria remembers that sacrifice, too,” the President said.

Honouring fallen personnel, Tinubu said those who had died in the line of duty would not be forgotten, emphasising that their legacy endures through the communities they helped secure and the nation they served.

“Their names may not always trend, but their courage lives on in rescued communities, protected families, and the survival of the nation they served,” he stated.

The President stressed that the fight against terrorism requires collective responsibility, urging citizens to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

“The fight against terror is not only a military operation. It is a national duty,” he said, adding: “When you see something, say something. When you know something, report it.”

Reaffirming Nigeria’s resolve, Tinubu declared that the country would not succumb to fear or allow violent groups to define its identity.

“We will not allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, or violent extremists to define who we are as a people. Their violence is not our identity,” he said.

He concluded with a message of encouragement and prayer for frontline personnel, expressing hope for their safety as they continue to serve the nation.
