The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Abiodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
Announcing the final results, the commission said Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challengers and secure a fresh four-year mandate.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 40,543 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) garnered 12,872 votes.
Declaring the result, the Returning Officer said Oyebanji, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast, was duly returned elected as Governor of Ekiti State.
The outcome signals a commanding victory for the incumbent and consolidates the APC’s political dominance in the state.
Supporters of the Governor took to the streets in celebration across parts of Ekiti, while observers described the margin as a strong endorsement of his first-term performance.
In his acceptance speech, Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the people of the state for what he described as overwhelming support.
He pledged to deepen development efforts across key sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare and agriculture, while improving the overall welfare of residents.
The Governor also extended an olive branch to his opponents, urging them and other stakeholders to set aside political differences and work together for the progress of the state.
In a post on his social media page, Oyebanji described the victory as a collective mandate from the people.
“The voice of the people has reverberated from every part of our great state, and the message is clear. I am deeply humbled by the scale of this victory. Securing a clean sweep across all 16 local government areas, and 85% of the popular vote is a humbling vote of confidence from Ekiti Kete,” he said.
“From our urban centers to our most remote communities, you have spoken with one thunderous voice for continuous development, stability, and a future of endless opportunities. This mandate means that our work must touch every household even deeper.
“There are no winners or losers today, there is only one united Ekiti determined to continue its journey of upward mobility. I pledge to honor this immense trust by continuing to lead with humility, dedication and fairness. Thank you, Ekiti Kete, for making history with us.”
