The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has consoled the government and people of Plateau state over the killing of 28 persons and many others wounded in a deadly attack on Kawel community of Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos Local Government Area of the state.
The Inspector General, who was represented by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Zone 4, Morris Dankwambo, paid a sympathy visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Old Government House, Rayfield, on Wednesday, and promised to collaborate with the state government to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The IGP, who described the act as barbaric and unacceptable, said, ” The police and all other security agencies condemned the attack. We are working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators. “
According to him, they were in the state for an on-the-spot assessment of the unfortunate killings that occurred over the weekend at Mushere Chiefdom, with a directive from the Inspector General to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous act.
AIG Dankwambo told Mutfwang that they were reviewing the security situation by restoring confidence in the people and ensuring that the people were fully protected, as they were not relenting towards
According to him, security was a collective responsibility of all citizens and called for collaboration and partnership to nip in the bud the killings that have refused to cease.
Dankwambo appealed to the people not to take the law into their own hands through acts of reprisal, saying the investigation is ongoing and was optimistic that something positive would come out.
Responding, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who condemned the killings in strong terms, urged the police to fish out the perpetrators for them to face the full wrath of the law, noting that it will restore confidence in the people.
He lamented at the rate of killings in the state, saying that security at their disposal was selective, with women admitted waiting for delivery at the Primary Health Care(PHC) being gruesomely murdered.
Governor Mutfwang further revealed that security has averted plans to target communities recently, based on security reports in their possession, and urged citizens to remain calm in the face of the provocation, assuring that security is on top of the situation.
