NewsSultan of Sokoto Urges Northern Governors To Crush Criminals

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged all 19 northern states to forge a united front against the region’s worsening security crisis.

The Sultan while speaking on Wednesday at a meeting of governors and traditional rulers in Kaduna, said kidnapping, banditry, and Boko Haram are key challenges which have “crippled the region.”
“Everyone has a role to play in ensuring security. We must unite to fight this security problem, especially terrorism, kidnapping, and every form of insecurity,” the Sultan said. He stressed that no single state can tackle the threat alone.
The forum, in an effort to drive a lasting solution, set up a security trustees committee comprising prominent figures from the 19 northern states.
According to Sultan, the panel will develop fresh strategies and operational approaches to restore peace across the region, noted that the committee’s mandate is to deliver “durable solutions” to insecurity that has displaced communities and stalled development.
Northern leaders at the meeting backed the move as a critical step toward reclaiming the region.
