The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will on Friday formally usher in a new phase in its leadership as its outgoing Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, hands over to his successor, Prof. Segun Aina.
The official handover ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, 31 July 2026 and will be streamed live on JAMB’s official social media platforms, marking the end of Oloyede’s 10-year tenure and the commencement of Aina’s leadership of the nation’s tertiary admissions agency.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the examination body invited members of the public to witness what it described as a significant milestone in its leadership transition.
“Join us for the live broadcast of the official handover ceremony as Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the outgoing Registrar of JAMB, formally hands over to Prof. Segun Aina,” the announcement read.
President Bola Tinubu had in May appointed Aina to succeed Oloyede, whose second and final five-year term expires on 31 July 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with expertise in digital infrastructure, national examination systems and institutional reforms.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The Presidency said the incoming registrar has over 15 years of experience advising federal and state governments on digital transformation, institutional reforms and systems development.
He has also consulted for the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), particularly on ICT systems and examination integrity.
Beyond his academic credentials, JAMB disclosed that Aina is not new to the board’s operations, having played a key role during the early introduction of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) system, a reform widely regarded as one of the institution’s most significant technological achievements.
The board said his experience in examination administration and digital systems positions him to sustain ongoing reforms.
The Presidency further described Aina as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering, noting that he would become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that he would consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded under Oloyede’s administration while further strengthening the operations of the examination body.
Ahead of the transition, Oloyede urged the media and civil society organisations to extend the same support they gave his administration to the incoming registrar.
Expressing confidence in his successor, he said, “I believe that if you think I’ve done anything, he will do better because I’m old-school. Professor Aina will do everything possible to take this board to a higher level and greater heights.”
