The Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has warned vandals, scavengers, and others involved in the illegal removal, purchase, or disposal of critical infrastructure to desist from such activities.
NSCDC spokesman in the state, DSC Amidu Baba Nyako, gave the warning while parading two suspects on Tuesday at the Command headquarters in Yola, who were arrested for allegedly vandalizing critical electricity infrastructure along the 33KV network line from Hong to Garaha.
He stressed that anyone found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
“The suspects, Kukuya Yakubu and Rabiu Haruna, both male, aged 29 and 30 years old respectively, were arrested on Saturday, 22 August 2026, by our operatives of Hong Division following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected vandals operating within the area.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in the vandalism of approximately 300 meters of 150mm Aluminum Conductor Cable (ACC) along the 33KV Hong–Garaha Network Line, with the intention of selling the vandalized cables to scavengers for financial gain,” Nyako said.
According to him, the arrest is part of Commandant Nasiru Saleh’s sustained efforts to protect critical national assets and infrastructure from vandalism and other criminal activities that could undermine the delivery of essential services to communities.
Nyako, said the two suspects remain in the custody of NSCDC for further investigation and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The spokesman commended the officers and men of the Hong Division for their vigilance, professionalism, and prompt response to credible intelligence. adding that the Command will continue to intensify surveillance and intelligence-led operations across the State to safeguard critical national assets.
He call on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities around electricity installations and other critical national assets to the nearest NSCDC office.
Also commenting during the parade, the Communication Officer of Yola Electricity Distribution Company, Mrs. Blessing Tunor, expressed concern over the activities of vandals, saying it has affected their operations.
She called on the public to be vigilant and report suspicious movement of persons around YEDC facilities to NSCDC or other security agencies for prompt action.
