The Federal Government of Nigeria has faulted fresh attacks launched by the Houthis in Yemen against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, describing the development as a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
The attacks, which occurred on Monday, reportedly injured scores of civilians and caused damage to civil infrastructure.
In a statement by the Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, on Tuesday, noted that the renewed hostilities posed a threat not only to the security and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia but also to stability across the Middle East.
The Federal Government consequently called on all parties to uphold international law, exercise maximum restraint and avoid further actions capable of escalating the crisis.
Nigeria warned that continued hostilities could endanger civilian lives, undermine regional security and further disrupt the flow of much-needed global energy supplies.
The country also expressed solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia, while wishing those injured in the attacks a speedy recovery.
The Federal Government of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace processes and conciliatory frameworks to promote regional peace, international security and stability, and advance shared prosperity and development.
