The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC has challenged the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, NIEEE to rise up and play a major role in the area of emerging technologies such as Block-chain Technology, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing & Big Data.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta gave the charge at the official Investiture ceremony of the 19thChairman of the institute, Engr. Kings Adeyemi in Abuja.

Prof. Danbatta, who was represented at the occasion by the Director of Technical Standards, Barko Wakeel enjoined the NIEEE members to continue to make meaningful contributions to the progress of the industry, especially at the stakeholder’s engagement programmes.

He pointed out that Electrical and Electronic Engineers play significant roles across all segments of the industry, particular, Electrical and Electronics Engineers which play crucial roles in the delivery of the Commission’s regulatory mandates.

‘‘Professionalism is one of the core values of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). At the NCC we encourage and’ support our staff to join professional bodies of their choice.

‘‘As a stakeholder in the telecoms industry, I enjoin you to continue to make meaningful contributions to the progress of this industry, especially at our stakeholder’s engagement programmes.

‘‘Electrical and Electronic Engineers play significant roles across all segments of the industry. At NCC in particular, Electrical and Electronics Engineers play crucial roles in the delivery of our regulatory mandates.

‘‘Some of these include. Frequency Spectrum administration and management, setting technical standards, carrying out devices type approvals, creating technical frameworks for the telecom industry taking cognizance of evolving technologies and operational models, carrying out devices type approval creating technical frameworks for the telecom industry taking cognisance of evolving technologies and operational models, carrying out monitoring activities amongst others.

For the new national chairman of this association, who is a staff of the Commission, the NCC boss said the Commission had afforded him the opportunity to attend several trainings both locally and internationally over the years, urging him to bring to bear the skill and knowledge he acquired in the course of his duty at the Commission in order to advance NIEEE into a better future.

He however, assured that the Commission is willing to partner with NIEEE in telecoms related programs where necessary and feasible
