Enugu state House of Assembly urges the Enugu State Government to convert the old House of Assembly building near the Ultra-Modern Secretariat building to Museum/tourist center.
Hon. Chukwuka Eneh, member representing Udi South constituency and sponsor of the motion, stated that “The old legislative building is set to be a tourist center. On the North side of the building, that is coming from old Zik’s house, there are four monumental edifices of horns with a box like structure on top. Each of these horns which are well positioned in a triangular portion of land is about thirty feet in height with base of about seven feet circumference”.
He further stated that establishment of the museum will create employment opportunities, yield income to the state and corroborate the state government’s efforts to beautify and modernize Enugu metropolis.
The Speaker, Rt Hon. Edward Ubosi, however constituted a 5-man committee to investigate and communicate its findings about the old house of Assembly and follow up with the Government as regards the House’s resolution. The committee members are Josephat Okika (Chairman), Jeff Mba, Ibenaku Onoh, Chuka Eneh and Jane Eneh.
Meanwhile, an executive bill for a law to make provision for urban and regional planning in Enugu State and for other matters connected therewith received its first reading in the State Assembly. The bill seeks to provide for a law that will ensure the physical development, control and urban renewal in Enugu State.
