The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress APC seems to have deepened following the suspension of the national chairman of the party by an Abuja High Court.

Justice Danlami Senchi of an Abuja High Court had on Wednesday suspended Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the party.

The court bailiff had served the national secretariat of the party the order of court at exactly 4:57pm and soon after nine trucks loaded with armed policemen took over the premises of the party located at Wuse 2 Abuja.

One of the police officers who spoke on condition of anonymity said they just came to maintain law and order and forestall any breakdown of law. All staff members of the party were sternly told to stay inside their offices and stop loitering.

Knowledgeable sources within the party hierarchy say this may be the begining of the end of Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the party as even majority of the National Working Committee members of the party have withdrawn their loyalty from the embattled chairman.

The source who declined to be named given the sensitive nature of the case claimed that even the acting national secretary, Victor Giadom from the same South South geopolitical zone as Oshiomhole is reluctant to throw his weight in defence of Oshiomhole.

Comrade Oshiomhole has been having a running battle with his state governor, Godwin Obaseki over the second term ambition of the Edo governor. There are also those who believe that Oshiomhole’s troubles can be traced to the numerous interests ahead of the 2023 election, especially those who feel that his continued chairmanship of the party could put paid to whatever ambitions they have in 2023.

The application suspending Oshiomhole was filed by an applicant, Oluwale Afolabi.

While Mr Oshiomhole is the first respondent, the APC is the second respondent.

Mr Afolabi in his application dated and filed on January 16 had contended that Mr Oshiomhole is currently suspended by the party and has not challenged the suspension.

According to Mr Afolabi, Mr Oshiomhole’s rights as an APC member is currently abated and he cannot continue to act as chairman of the party.

He argued that Mr Oshiomhole cannot continue to enjoy benefits from the APC, despite his suspension as a member of the party.
