Rapid evolution of Covid-19 still stirs panic
The number confirmed cases of Corona Virus in Nigeria increased by five in the early hours of Sunday, bringing the total number of recorded cases to twenty seven. According to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), all new cases in Lagos State have travel history to high-risk Covid-19 countries within the last seven day.
With the Newly recorded cases, there are 19 confirmed cases of Corona virus in Lagos, Four in Abuja, One in Oyo, two in Ogun and one in Ekiti state.
Currently there are two cases of recovery and no death cases have been recorded.
FIRS debunks Covid-19 Rumours
Reacting to the claims making rounds on the media, the Federal Inland Revenue Service has denied the claims that one of it official tested positive to corona virus. On Saturday morning, media reports disclosed that an FIRS official tested positive to Covid-19 alongside two other persons in Abuja.
A statement signed by the Communications and Liaison Department director, Abdullahi Ismaila Ahmad disclosed that the rumoured official was only self isolated after picking up his wife from the airport. “The Service can confirm that a member of staff who went to pick his wife from the airport following her return from a trip abroad is currently and voluntarily observing the Federal Government advisory of self-isolation alongside his spouse at the couple’s home since Monday. Both husband and wife have not visited any FIRS offices or events since the wife returned to Nigeria last Sunday,” the statement read.
The rapid evolution of Covid-19 has caused many to panic. The spread of the disease has also led to countries locking in millions of their citizens, closing social spaces, locking down entire regions and shutting their doors against travellers from other countries. On march, 11, 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared Covid-19 a pandemic and since then, the spread has worsened and more deaths have occurred. Currently, more than 600 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Africa.
