A new case of Covid-19 has been recorded in Rivers State, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 51, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NDCD) disclosed. This new case was reported alongside five new cases of coronavirus.  Two cases each in Abuja and Lagos and one in Rivers state.

This development came shortly after 24 the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, ordered the closure of all air, sea and land routes into the state till further notice.

He also banned all vehicular movements in and out of the state, as well as public events such as burials and weddings.

According to the (NCDC), three cases are returning travelers from high risked Covid-19 countries and two are close contacts of a confirmed case.

“As at 11:25 pm 25th March, there are, 51 confirmed cases, two discharge, and one death,” the agency tweeted.

As of Thursday, there are 48 active cases, two recovered and discharged and one death.

The death case was a Nigerian with an underlying health condition.

Although Nigeria was among the last countries to report cases of the virus, cases are beginning spread throughout the country. Owing to its continuous rise, Nigeria records at least one case of virus daily
