As a preventive measure towards curbing the spread of coronavirus, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof Simon Ortuanya has announced the closure of the borders and all markets within the state with effect from 6pm on Tuesday, the 31st day of March, 2020 till further notice.

“All Local Government Chairmen are hereby directed to ensure strict compliance with the closure of the markets within their respective local government councils, without prejudice,” said Prof. Ortuanya.

He further stated that the only markets exempted from the closure are those on medicals, food items, water, pharmaceuticals, and other basic items for daily domestic needs.

At this difficult time, no sacrifice is too much to save the lives of our people and so, the general public is hereby advised to adhere strictly to the measures put in place by the State Government and the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

While appealing to the residents and citizens of the State to understand and comply with Government’s measures and the standard hygiene protocol as stipulated by NCDC which includes frequent handwashing with soap, use of sanitizer and social distancing, the SSG directed the security agencies to enforce all the directives as stated above.
