ENUGU:  Dr Ifeanyi Agujiobi, Permanent Secretary of the Enugu State Ministry of Health has confirmed the positive status of two patients in the state who voluntarily presented themselves for COVID-19 testing on arrival from the United Kingdom (UK).

“These two confirmed cases which are first in southeast Nigeria brought the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 81. The patients are now in isolation while the Enugu State Multi-Sectoral Rapid Response Team has commenced contact tracing,” said Agujiobi.

The State Government, however, has expressed her gratitude to the patients and advised all persons who returned from foreign trips in the last 14 days to follow their exemplary lead and willingly present themselves for the test. This he said will help curb the spread and save millions of lives.

All those who recently returned from oversea trips or have been in contact with such returnees are encouraged to contact the Enugu State Public Health Department through these dedicated lines: 08182555550 or 09022333833.

The general public should endeavor to observe a high level of personal hygiene by washing their hands regularly with soap or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer, cover their nose with bent elbow or with disposable tissue while sneezing, maintain social distancing, wash clothes worn outside the home on returning to the house, but most especially stay at home.

Do not panic but comply with the preventive measures outlined by the State Government and together we will stamp this menace out of Enugu State.
