Six new cases of COVID-19 virus has been confirmed in Osun state. The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 190. A breakdown of the cases by the state showed that although the number of confirmed cases has increased in Osun state, Lagos still remains the epicenter of the virus.

There currently 190 confirmed cases of the virus, 20 discharged and 2 death cases in Nigeria.

There are 98 confirmed cases in Lagos, FCT- 38, Osun – 20, Oyo -8, Akwa Ibom – 5, Ogun – 4, Edo – 4, Kaduna – 4, Bauchi – 3, Enugu -2, Ekiti-2, Rivers- 1, Benue -1.

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom state government has countered the claims of the NCDC about its newly recorded cases in a series of posts shared on twitter.

According to the state government, the Director-General of Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu was unaware of the published results.

“Sequel to the news report about the positive testing of 5 hitherto suspected cases of COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom state, we wish to state as follows that;

“We observed a disturbing breach in the test and reporting procedure. Akwa Ibom State Government only heard about the test results in the news. Akwa Ibom state governor only heard about the test result in the news. The Director-General of NCDC was not aware of the reported result announcement.

“All 5 reported positive test cases have been contacted and they have shown no COVID-19 symptoms. While the tests were being processed in NCDC-approved test facilities, all suspected cases were held in isolation.

“Several sample batches have been previously sent for testing from Akwa Ibom State and they all returned negative results.

“Owing to the irregularities observed in the testing and reporting procedure, Health Care Professionals in Akwa Ibom State have called for an immediate reconfirmation test on the five reported cases,” the tweet said.

Owing to the continuous rise of Corona Virus in the country, President Buhari has ordered the lockdown of three major cities – Ogun, Lagos and Abuja for two weeks. To contain the spread of the virus, Nigerian authorities have halted inter-state movement and locked down social spaces.
