Christian faithful in Awka on Friday performed their Good Friday Service at home due to the current lockdown to prevent spread of COVID-19.

Most Churches at the metropolis did not conduct service to mark the day.

Some faithful interviewed by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Awka said that they had no option than to observe their services at home.

Mrs Chioma Beluchukwu an Anglican sai that she did not attend the annual Good Friday service in compliance with the ban against public gathering to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Beluchukwu said that people stayed back home to listen to the clergy celebrate the service in radio or television sets as planned by the Churches.

“The outbreak of coronavirus has cost us much, there is no celebration of Holy Communion on Holy Thursday, in fact all activities associated with Easter celebration were not observed, my first experience in life,” she said.

Mr Ugochukwu Ogbonna a Catholic said that parishioners were permitted to pray at home since the restriction of movement in the state and prayed God to remove the scourge so that people can worship God as usual.

Anambra Sovernment had yet to relax movement restriction to enable Christians enjoy the Easter celebration as most Churches did not hold services to mark the Good Friday as was done annually.
