The former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Zamfara, Alhaji Bello Dankande, says he has distributed 5,000 bags of assorted grains to vulnerable groups and individuals to cushion the effects of COVID-19 in the state.

Speaking at the distribution of the items in Gusau on Thursday, Dankande said the gesture was aimed at reducing the effects of COVID-19 among the vulnerable groups in the state, especially during the Ramadan.

“In Bakura Local Government, we gave out 2,500 bags of assorted grains comprising 500 bags each of rice, millet, maize, guinea corn, and sugar.

“In Gusau Local Government area, we identified more than 1,500 households, we are supporting them with over 2,500 bags of assorted grains,” he said.

He said the beneficiaries comprised widows, orphans, Islamic scholars, and wards executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

“This is my personal assistance to the less-privileged. I offer this annually but this year l expand it, considering the hardship facing people as a result of COVID-19,” he said.

He appealed to people of the state to use the Ramadan period and embark on prayers to seek God’s intervention to end the COVID-19 pandemic.
